How to pay Oklahoma estimated taxes.

Oklahoma collects its own estimated tax through the Oklahoma Tax Commission, separate from the IRS. Here’s who needs to pay, when, and how to pay online.

Do you need to pay?

You must make quarterly estimated payments if you expect your Oklahoma tax to exceed your withholding by $500 or more and your withholding to be less than the smaller of 70% of your current-year tax or 100% of your prior-year tax.

Have timely withholding and estimated payments of at least 70% of your 2026 tax or 100% of your 2025 tax (from a 12-month return). There is no high-income adjustment. No underpayment interest applies if the tax shown on your return is less than $1,000.

If you underpay: 20% per year on the underpaid amount for the period of underpayment.

For how to pick a safe amount, see how much to pay in estimated taxes.

Deadlines

April 15, June 15, and September 15, 2026, and January 15, 2027, in equal quarterly installments. This matches the federal schedule.

Paying Oklahoma, step by step

What you need

  • Nothing to set up. Oklahoma Taxpayer Access Point (OkTAP) takes payments without an account.
  • Your Social Security number and a copy of last year's Oklahoma return.
  • Your bank routing and account numbers.

Start at Oklahoma Taxpayer Access Point (OkTAP), Oklahoma's official payment site.

  1. On the OkTAP home page, click Make an Online Payment.
  2. Complete the Online Payment form, selecting the estimated individual income tax payment type and using the calendar to choose the filing period.
  3. Click Schedule Payment.
  4. On the QuickTax Payments form, complete all fields and click Continue.
  5. Check the confirmation screen and click Process Payment, then save your confirmation.

Other ways to pay: Check payable to "Oklahoma Tax Commission" mailed with the OW-8-ES coupon to Oklahoma Tax Commission, PO Box 269027, Oklahoma City, OK 73126-9027. After your first payment, the Commission mails pre-printed coupons for later quarters. Some electronic payment methods charge a convenience fee (amount not published on the form).

Oklahoma will not fill these payments in for you. Your preparer has to enter each estimated payment on your Oklahoma return. Keep your own record of the date, amount, and confirmation number.

Extension payments

A federal extension automatically extends your Oklahoma return if you owe no Oklahoma tax; enclose a copy with your return. If you have no federal extension or you owe Oklahoma tax, file Form 504-I. An extension does not extend time to pay, and it is valid only if 90% of the tax is paid by the original due date. Unpaid tax incurs a one-time 5% penalty and interest of 1.25% per month.

Make this year's first estimated payment as a separate transaction, marked as an estimate for the current year.

Good to know

  • The current-year safe harbor is only 70% of this year's tax, lower than the federal 90%.
  • Underpayment interest is steep at 20% per year, but no underpayment interest applies if your total tax is under $1,000.
  • Farmers (two-thirds of gross income from farming) and estates do not have to make estimated payments.
  • If you e-file, your return is due April 20, but any payment due then must be made electronically to count as on time.
