How to pay Missouri estimated taxes.
Missouri collects its own estimated tax through the Missouri Department of Revenue, separate from the IRS. Here’s who needs to pay, when, and how to pay online.
Do you need to pay?
You must make estimated payments if your Missouri estimated tax is expected to be $100 or more. That means your expected tax minus credits, including withholding.
You owe no addition to tax if each installment is paid on time and your payments equal at least the lesser of 90% of your current-year tax (66 2/3% for farmers) or 100% of the tax on your prior-year return, if that return covered 12 months and showed a tax liability. Missouri has no higher prior-year percentage for high earners.
If you underpay: 7% simple interest for 2026 (8% for 2025), charged as an addition to tax on each underpaid installment.

Deadlines
Pay in full with the first voucher, or in equal installments due April 15, 2026, June 15, 2026, September 15, 2026, and January 15, 2027. This matches the federal schedule. If you first become required later in the year, you start at the next due date. If you were not required to file a declaration earlier in the year, you can skip January 15 by filing and paying by January 31.

You can also mail a check with the MO-1040ES voucher to Missouri Department of Revenue, P.O. Box 555, Jefferson City, MO 65105-0555.
Missouri will not fill these payments in for you. Your preparer has to enter each estimated payment on your Missouri return. Keep your own record of the date, amount, and confirmation number.
Extension payments
If you have an approved federal extension and do not expect to owe Missouri tax, you get an automatic Missouri extension (to October 15) without filing anything. If you owe, or have no federal extension, file Form MO-60 by April 15 for up to six months. Making an extension payment online under File Personal Income Tax Extension of Time to File (MO-60) also files the MO-60. An extension does not give you more time to pay, and a 5% addition plus interest applies to tax unpaid after April 15.
Make this year's first estimated payment as a separate transaction, marked as an estimate for the current year.
Good to know
- Missouri's $100 threshold is one of the lowest in the country.
- Kansas City and St. Louis each levy a 1% earnings tax on residents and on nonresidents who work there. The cities collect it, not the state, so the state portal does not cover it.
- Online extension payments for the prior year can only be made between January 1 and October 31.
- Farmers with at least two-thirds of gross income from farming can pay by January 15 or file and pay by March 1.
