How to pay Delaware estimated taxes.

Delaware collects its own estimated tax through the Delaware Division of Revenue, separate from the IRS. Here’s who needs to pay, when, and how to pay online.

Do you need to pay?

You must make a declaration of estimated tax if your Delaware tax due after withholding and credits can reasonably be expected to exceed $800 for 2026.

No penalty if each installment is paid on time and totals at least 90% of your 2026 tax, or 100% of your 2025 tax. Use 110% of your 2025 tax if your 2025 Delaware AGI was over $150,000 ($75,000 if married filing separately). No estimates are required if you had no tax liability for a full 12-month 2025.

If you underpay: Penalty of 1.5% per month or fraction of a month on each underpaid or late installment, plus interest at 0.5% per month on unpaid tax.

For how to pick a safe amount, see how much to pay in estimated taxes.

Deadlines

Four equal installments due April 30, June 15, and September 15, 2026, and January 15, 2027. This differs from the federal schedule: the first payment is due April 30, not April 15.

A date on a weekend or holiday moves to the next business day. Pay at least two business days early.

Paying Delaware, step by step

What you need

  • Access to Delaware Taxpayer Portal.
  • Your Social Security number and a copy of last year's Delaware return.
  • Your bank routing and account numbers.

Start at Delaware Taxpayer Portal, Delaware's official payment site.

  1. Go to the Delaware Taxpayer Portal at tax.delaware.gov.
  2. Choose the personal income tax estimated payment option.
  3. Enter your SSN, name, address, and tax year 2026.
  4. Enter the amount and choose direct debit (you can set a later date, up to the due date) or credit card.
  5. Submit and keep the email confirmation.

Other ways to pay: Direct debit has no dollar limit but must come from a US account. Credit card payments are capped at $10,000. To pay by check, use the paper PIT-EST form, payable to Delaware Division of Revenue, mailed to P.O. Box 830, Wilmington, DE 19899-0830.

Delaware will not fill these payments in for you. Your preparer has to enter each estimated payment on your Delaware return. Keep your own record of the date, amount, and confirmation number.

Extension payments

File Form PIT-EXT by April 30 (online at tax.delaware.gov or by mail) for an automatic extension to October 15, and pay the balance you expect to owe with it. It does not extend the time to pay: interest of 0.5% per month runs from April 30. If you file PIT-EXT online, you can pay by direct debit or credit card.

Make this year's first estimated payment as a separate transaction, marked as an estimate for the current year.

Good to know

  • Delaware's return and first estimate are both due April 30, not April 15.
  • Nonresidents figure Delaware tax as if all income were Delaware income, then pay the share that matches their Delaware-source income.
  • The online estimate system sends an email reminder when your next payment is due.
  • Card payments over $10,000 are not accepted, so larger estimates need direct debit or a check.
